چکیده

In the Randall-Sundrum two-brane model (RS1), a Kerr black hole on the brane can be naturally identified with a section of rotating black string. To estimate KaluzaKlein (KK) corrections on gravitational waves emitted by perturbed rotating black strings, we give the effective Teukolsky equation on the brane which is separable equation and hence numerically manageable. In this process, we derive the master equation for the electric part of the Weyl tensor Eμν which would be also useful to discuss the transition from black strings to localized black holes triggered by GregoryLaflamme instability.

Superradiant instabilities of rotating black branes and strings

Black branes and strings are generally unstable against a certain sector of gravitational perturbations. This is known as the Gregory-Laflamme instability. It has been recently argued [1, 2] that there exists another general instability affecting many rotating extended black objects. This instability is in a sense universal, in that it is triggered by any massless field, and not just gravitatio...

Gravitational waves, black holes and cosmic strings in cylindrical symmetry

The emission of gravitational waves by black holes is under intense investigation, in preparation for the expected observational study of black holes and other astrophysical objects by upcoming gravitational-wave detectors. Most of this work is either numerical or in an approximation, since we lack a full physical understanding of the dynamics of black holes and gravitational waves. The accepte...

Gravitational waves from a particle orbiting around a rotating black hole: Post-Newtonian expansion.

Using the Teukolsky and Sasaki-Nakamura equations for the gravitational perturbation of the Kerr spacetime, we calculate the post-Newtonian expansion of the energy and angular momentum luminosities of gravitational waves from a test particle orbiting around a rotating black hole up through P 5/2 N order beyond the quadrupole formula. We apply a method recently developed by Sasaki to the case of...

Polarization of Long-Wavelength Gravitational Waves by Rotating Black Holes

The scattering cross section for a long-wavelength planar gravitational wave impinging upon a rotating black hole is calculated, for the special case in which the direction of incidence is aligned with the rotation axis. We show that black hole rotation leads to a term in the cross section that is proportional to aω. Hence, contrary to some claims, co-rotating and counter-rotating helicities ar...

Cosmic Background of Gravitational Waves from Rotating Neutron Stars

The extragalactic background of gravitational waves produced by tri-axial rotating neutron stars was calculated, under the assumption that the properties of the underlying pulsar population are the same of those of the galactic population, recently derived by Regimbau & de Freitas Pacheco (2000). For an equatorial ellipticity of ε = 10, the equivalent density parameter due to gravitational wave...
